Credit Insurance
Credit insurance is another form of credit risk management whereby the policyholder is indemnified against non-payment due to insolvency, past due situations and political risk (in situations where the receivables are due from customers located in emerging market countries). This is not a financing arrangement and as such, the policyholder still owns the receivables. Transfer of receivable ownership only occurs in the event that a credit insurance claim is to be paid by the insurer. Credit insurance can be used by the client to achieve higher sales by: a) enabling more risk-taking in the sales process and b) offering open account terms to customers previously on L/C only. The policy can also be used to obtain better asset-based borrowing terms.
